For this project I was inspired by my printmaking background and I chose to experiment with thermochromic ink, which change color in response to temperature. In my own practice I'm interested in the layering of inks and how screen printing in particular can be pushed beyond the bounds of print and paper. I'm interested in general in pushing the bounds of showcasing work on walls or having them distanced from the viewer, so using thermochromic inks was a way to engage with this while also experimenting with a new tool. For this craft study I chose to focus on documenting the recipe for thermochromic ink specifically examining how it responds to color saturation, sensitivity, and layering.
This documentation will be a hybrid recipe guide and a how to guide. I will go over the ratios I used with exactly what materials and the general dos and don'ts that I found. From there, definitely run your own experiments. I can assure that the ones I did work so now that you know that info what will you make ??
